The Raphael Rooms

Four rooms with incredible artwork can be seen during your journey through the Vatican galleries on the way to the Sistine Chapel. Take time to internalise everything you see on the way, especially in these rooms, as I found people would just be aiming for the Sistine Chapel without fully appreciating everything there is before it. Raphael was part of the High Renaissance masters (the others being Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo) and was buried in the Pantheon - a personal favourite landmark of mine in Rome, Italy.

    Wonderful place
Vatican Stanze, representative papal apartments in the north wing of the Vatican Palace. They are decorated with frescoes of Rafael and his helpers and students. In the Vatican Palace there are four stanze, which are located on the second floor and they are: Stanza dell'Incendio di Borgo, Stanza della Segnatura, Stanza di Eliodoro, Stanza di Constantino . The rooms were originally painted for the apartments of Pope Julius II. Raphael was commissioned by the Pope to transform and improve the decor of his rooms in 1508. Unfortunately, the painter's death in 1520 meant that only his students and helpers completed the work. They make a huge impression. I recommend ... nice time.

My favorite part of the Vatican
It's hard to pick a favorite part of a place like The Vatican, but this is my pick. The paintings are so vibrant and colorful and represent so many different people. It's fun to try and figure out who they all are (I never could.).
