Absolutely incredible walk through some of the most significant ruins in history
The Roman Forum and Palatine Hill was by far the highlight of our visit to Rome. This incredible archeological park has you walking the 2000 year old roads of ancient Rome, getting up close with the remains of temples and other major structures of this important area. You really feel the energy of history flowing. The view from Palatine Hill (the platform through the garden) is fabulous, with the dome of St Peter’s Basilica at one end, sweeping around to the Colosseum at the other. The park opens at 9.00 and highly recommend getting there early as you can enjoy much of it, including the Hill view without the crowds and the heat which build by mid morning. We spent around 3 hours. Online booking is required unless you have a free slot on the Roma card or are visiting as part of the Colosseum ticket.

No visit to Rome would be complete without a trip to the Forum
The Roman Forum comprises much of the Ancient Rome's most important structures, from shrines to government houses to monuments. Although much of the complex is in ruins, you can see the remains and imagine the former glory of the Arch of Septimius Severus, the Temple of Saturn, the Arch of Titus and the House of the Vestal Virgins, among other structures. Ancient Rome's most important center of commerce, government, and religion; and probably the entire Empire. Entrance fees for the Roman Forum depend on what tour you take and what kind of ticket you book. It's possible to book a ticket to explore on your own (which usually includes entrance to the Colosseum and Palatine Hill). I would advise that you do this but through an agency/tour as you will get the fast track entry and this will save you a lot of time. You can also decide on either a tour guide, headset, or phone app or just do your own thing. The Forum is open daily at 9 a.m. and closes at 3:30, 4:30 or 6:15 p.m., depending on the season. The closest metro station is Colosseo.
