    Worth finding ...
We were staying in Orté - but wanted to swim without driving to the coast. This find was a treasure. I'd suggest taking the time to find locals and ask where the best public swim beach is - but we simply drove into the private parking lot of a beachside cafe and asked if we could park and enter the lake there - there were concrete steps into the water -- if our party also took a table and purchased food and drinks there and they were very kind to allow this. The water is so clear and pretty and even warm. It was a treat and also very uncrowded! One of our friends stated that this area and its small beach-side condos and resorts is where we will have to stay next time!! Tips: bring your own swim bag and towel and water shoes if you have them for the rocky bottom of the lake. We didn't really find an area to spread out towels and sun bathe but with a bit more research I think we could have.

    Lovely Lake
Spent 2 weeks (August and September) in the vicinity and swam regularly in the lake. (The lake is in a volcanic crater and black sand on the beach). The water was clean and warm and no motor boats are allowed (except for the boat yard when testing repairs, and this did not happen at all when we were there), only wind or manual propelled craft. It is not possible to walk around the lake, but at various points one can park and access some of the beach area, or alternatively access the beach via one of the restaurants. There are numerous restaurants, but we only sampled one, “Riva Fiorita” da Luigi e Caterina which was quite good and catered for celiacs/gluten free as well. The whole area is part of a natural reserve and this is an area of Italy where nuts are grown, particularly hazelnuts, so hazelnut groves everywhere. Lovely area. When we were there the water was not at all polluted and very clean and clear. Busy in the holiday season and weekends when the Italians arrive en mass with their picnic boxes and enjoy a summer day swimming and relaxing by the water.
