Lago di Nemi, Lazio, Italy

4.5 (540 reviews) Spent Ranking #1 in Province of Rome Bodies of Water

A beautiful lake that is quite tranquil and stunning to look at...

This lake was formed from the inside of an old volcanic crater. It is one of the closest complexes of volcanic remains to the city of Rome. It has a ton of history going back to before the Roman Empire...and is quite serene and tranquil to look at. In 1932, they actually brought up the remains of two barges/boats that were from the time of Caligula (see the Museo delle Navi in Nemi for more info). The high hills on the sides of the placid lake give great panoramic views, and are just spectacular.

    Incredibly beautiful. Fantastic hosts.
If I could give this place 6 stars review, it still would not be enough. The location is simply breathtaking and very peaceful and stunningly beautiful. The most important aspect is that Giuseppe his wife are some of the best hosts we have ever experienced…and we travel a LOT. You are guaranteed to have a great experience here. I’m coming back as soon as possible!

Nice small lake between the roman hills
Nice small lake between quiet roman hills. Close to the city of Nemi. Panoramic (romantic) view and nice walking through. There is a ancient ship museum close by.
