Go for sunset

It used to be salt mining in the Middle Ages nowadays important wetlands of the island where over the winter the migrant birds are coming. You can see hundreds of flamingos or black winged stilt. There is a long natural trail around the lake and through the sand dunes. If you approach the water be careful where you are stepping, mind the plants but also the muddy surface. In vicinity of the lake you can find Hala Sultan Tekke shrine or Kamares Aqueduct. At sunset you the lake looks magical. It takes about 30 minute to walk to lake from Larnaka Fort or you can take e.g Airport bus to get there.

    Stunning natural site
A stunning view on the lake from the Salt lake view point, it’s a bit difficult to find because you have to cross a residential area. The lake was dry when I went in the summer. The white salt could be seen on all the lake with the Tekke Mosque in the background. It looked like a desert. I really recommend to have a look on this natural site that changes throughout the month of the year.

    Good for Flamingo viewing!
There's actually not much information about where to park or how to get there but its pretty easy to find. If you drive up to Chlois, Larnaca (34.907159, 33.621109), you can find some parking alongside someone's house (I'm not sure if people living there would like it, but no one said anything to me and I went for about 45 mins and came back with no issue). Then follow the path walking over to the Salt Lake View Point and you'll reach the lake easily. Theres a walking path along the lake which is nice and peaceful. I went in mid December and although it was drizzling and cold, I'm glad I went because I managed to see the flamingos. They aren't as bright pink as I was expecting but still great to see them! I would recommend carrying your umbrella and layering up as it can be cold, but its a good way to get some steps in and get away from sitting in your car all the time!
