Salla, in the middle of nowhere
What a place! In the middle of nowhere and still in the middle of everything I needed: peace, quietness and nature. Loved the hiking routes, everything so well marked. All huts had burning wood and a place to burn it if you wanted to heat water or cook a lunch. Spent a week in the forest, loving every minute of it.

You see up to Russia from Fell Sallatunturi Observation Tower
Sallatunturi Lookout Point is situated on the top of Fell Sallatunturi. The small observation tower is free and it is open 24/7. You can see as far as Russia from here. Views are absolutely marvelous! It is quite easy to get onto Fell Sallatunturi. You can take a ski lift or choose a summer hiking trail or a winter walking trail, which starts on the northern side of the Black Slope of Salla Ski Resort (the nearest parking place is Sallatunturintie 4 Parking). However, notice that the slope is very deep - and so is the trail, too. There is a nice Lapp hut next to the observation tower and there is a good barbecue site in the Lapp hut. There aren't any services or shops on the top. So you should take your own sausages and matchsticks with you. Free firewood should be available. We really loved this place!
