Riisitunturi National Park, Lapland, Finland

Great place to enjoy nature
Riisitunturi National Park represents the fell and hill landscape of Koillismaa district at its best. The most valuable features of Riisitunturi Fell are the colourful hanging bogs on the slopes, and on the top of the fell the breath-taking scenery over the Lakes Kitkajärvet and the forest landscape of Posio. In the snowy forests, trees are covered with ”tykky”, frozen snow deposits, which in the blue moonlight just seem unreal.

Early March one of the most beautiful things to do in Lapland
I would hate seeing too many tourists in this fantastic environment, so let us start with the negatives first: it is quite a drive, and at this time mid March really cold and windy. You also need a serious hike of at least 3.5km through high snow to come here, so snow shoes will help. But once on top it is difficult to describe the wonders of nature you see here. Just fantastic how water got stuck as some kind of snow around the trees, adding up to 3 tons weight. These views are also on other spots in Lapland, but not all are so nice in location.

The magic of northern lights in Finnish Lapland
There is no words for the beauty of Finnish Lapland... Riisitunturi with snowy trees and full moon is magical, but imagine how it all influences you when there is northern lights burning over the frozen sky... Don't try imagine it, just watch this picture from the frost coated small hut standing there.
