Amazing scenery and traditional fishing
We stopped at the Kukkolankoski rapids to admire the view and the work of the traditional fishermen (dip netting), and enjoyed a cup of coffee and pastries at the cafe by the rapids. Sweden could be seen just across the river. At 3.5 km long (and 14 m drop), the rapids are the largest in Finland, and the area is recognised as a significant cultural heritage site.

Fresh fish
Stopped by here on a road trip with the family. It’s worth seeing it’s a huge Rapids with traditional fishing. I also recommend eating at one of the restaurants on the river you can get fresh fish.

Nice spot for hiking and fishing
In kukkolankoski/kukkolafors you will find and amazing place where to watch the rapids (highest in Europe) of the Torneå river flowing down to the sea. Perfect place for hiking without going too much into the wild. Haparanda/Tornio is within 30 km. Kayaking is of course a must, but not the easiest track.
