Jyppyra lookout, Lapland, Finland

4.5 (33 reviews) Spent 2-3 hours Ranking #2 in Enontekio Points of Interest & Landmarks

Short hike to amazing view of the fells

Jyppyra hill rises about 400 metres above sea level next to the village of Hetta. Our ancestors used to worship the spirits of the hill to guarantee a good hunt. A marked trail leads you from the Fell Lapland Nature Center to the top. Along the way you can explore the cultural history of Jyppyra and from the top you can admire the Pallas- Ounastunturi fell chain.

    Breathtaking views
We did the walking trail up to the top on our recent visit to Lapland. While it was a difficult trek in knee deep snow, the trail was easy to navigate with plenty of markers and directions up to the top. The trek up is worth it for the breathtaking views from the top. There's a little tent/hut to rest and get warm before going back down. Plenty of pre chopped firewood in a little store near to the hut, so you can build a fire and it gets really warm once the fire gets going. There are also toilet facilities next to the wood store if needed. The views from the top are beautiful and worth seeing if visiting this resort.

Short, but Steep Climb to the top.
Great view over Ounasjärvi. Fells, like Pyhäkero (711m) and the peaks of Pallas (Taivaskero 809m) looming in the horizon makes the climb up the steep hill worth the effort. Jyppyrä hill is located just above Hetta. Some 400 metres above sea level it offers some truly beautiful scenery.
