Järämä renovated fortification camp, known as Sturmbock-Stellung to the Germans, is located in Enontekiö municipality, in the north-west of Lapland. Originally it was built by Germans and is just one part of a larger network of fortification camps, built during the Lapland War, to protect the harbours of the Arctic Ocean. The camp is dug partly into the bedrock. No real battles were ever fought in this fortification camp.In the exhibition building there is a 100 m2 permanent exhibition. There is enough room in the hall for temporary exhibitions. The German built Sturmbock-Stellung, renovated fortification camp, is situated on the fells rising behind the exhibition building. It is also possible to get a guided tour of the camp, with information about the areas history.

A very interesting WWII place to visit.
Here you can learn about the German withdrawal from Finland in October 1944. When the Finns were forced by the Russians to drive their former allies out of Finland with force. Also called the Lappland War. This fortification was built by the Germans but never tested in a warlike scenario, but nevertheless a very interesting place to visit because different weapon fortifications and shelters have been restored to their original.

    Visit if you are nearby
The museum is interesting but not a lot is available in English. The main feature is the original fortification lines above the visitor center. There are a lot of stairs and when you get to the top the ground is rough and uneven. You need a steady footing. The day we were there the mosquitoes were out in force so we took the shorter path to the left. There were a couple of interesting things to see along the way. The right hand path might be better but we chose not to go on that longer walk.
