Beautiful old log church
Originally built in 1685, this is one of the oldest wooden churches in Finland. The altar painting is from 1739. I had never seen anything like it! On a nice summer day, the smell of tar reinforced the historical feel. The old church is well signposted from the "new" church (built in 1859) and definitely worth a visit.

Great 17th century wooden church
It was a pleasure to visit the Old church of Sodankylä. It was built in 1689 and it's amazing that it has survived. Luckily it was open so I was able to visit the indoors too. That a great place to visit

One of the oldest churches in Finland
Don´t miss this attraction while in Sodankylä center. Most of the wooden buildings were destroyed during the second ww, to find a church like this is worth of visiting. Ask the quide if they can borrow a lamp to see three mummys under the floor.
