Pha Gate Painting - Prehistoric Cliff Rock Paintings, Lampang Province, Thailand

5.0 (1 review) Spent Ranking #3 in Mae Mo Points of Interest & Landmarks

Very interesting site.

There are 3 main attractions in this site. 1. Prehistoric paintings on the vertical rocky cliff dated back over 3000 years ago Take a stroll along an 800 metres convenient path watching prehistoric paintings on the cliff (hard to see and imagine, but there is a guideline on the board at each point) with forest and mountain view. Don't forget to apply sunscreen. 2. Chao Por Pratu Pha shrine Pay respect to the loyal warrior "Iron hand" who fought Burmese army to his death at this position (to make his king escaped) about 300 years ago (like in the movie 300 but in this case only one !). Legend has it that he used his bare hands at a shield (iron hand, that's why) and fought to his death with his upright body leaned against the cliff and his hand still held a sword. What a great guy. 3. Local market This is a little market where Yao people sell their products (especially herbs and spices). Worth a visit.
