Chines fishing nets, prefer sunset time

The nomenclature of Chinese fishing nets suggests that it has its origin in China. It was introduced by the Chinese explorer Zheng He. The Chinese fishing nets in Cochin Harbor were set up between 1350 to 1450. The beaches of Cochin are beautifully lined with these Chinese nets. Chinese fishing nets abound in the Vasco-da-Gama Square near the Fort Kochi. They can also be seen in and around Bastion Bungalow, Santa Cruz. And if you want to see the Chines fishing nets, prefer sunset time. You’ll get nicer pictures and won’t be as distracted by the litter everywhere. We had a lot of expectations for the Chinese fishing nets and Fort Cochin as a foodie destination and were disappointed. As the expected Fort Kochi is a very touristic spot where we rapidly felt like walking wallets. And the fish we were so eager to eat is swimming in filthy water between what looks like an open-air litter and a refinery.

    Chinese heritage in Kochi
Most probably introduced by Chinese explorer Zheng He who hit the South Indian coast early 1400s. Ingeniously making use of a leverage effect the fishermen succeed in catching abundant amounts of fish. Though fish stocks have declined significantly over the years, the technique is still used all over Kerala's backwaters and coastal areas. At the stalls not only fish caught by using the Chinese nets is sold, but also from boats moving in and out of the estuary.

    Photogenic spot for a stop
Interesting to walk by and enjoy if you're in the area. The whole area is filled with tourists and sellers of all kinds of wares. Some you can walk out on and watch/photograph for a small fee, which is variable and expected. They are very close to many hotels and restaurants so it's easy to include on a leisurely walk in the area.
