A Unique Experience
This Russian Orthodox Church is a beautiful National Historical Site. Initially the Church was locked, but the gift shop was open. The attendant was pleasant and knowledgeable. Because she did not have any other customers she showed us the inside of the Church. For me, this was the first time I've been in an Orthodox Church and found it quite moving. From the Icons to the architect this is well worth a few minutes of your time. ( I should note that the Church is kept locked. Not everyone who visits may have the opportunity to see the inside, but even a walk around the outside is worth a stop.)

If you’re into history and on the Kenai Peninsula, I would definitely stop here
While on a motorcycle trip I decided to do some exploring of the Kenai Peninsula area. I’m a history buff and I wanted to learn more about the Russian Orthodox churches in the area. When I arrived the small 1894 church was locked up, but the small gift shop adjacent to it was open. I was lucky enough to be there in a day where the priest happen to be working on a Monday and staff in the gift shop because the person normally does it had a commitment. The priest gave the handful of us a tour of the small church and spoke about the history of this particular church as well as the Russian orthodox church history on the peninsula. He was warm and friendly and answered all her questions. He is just the 13th priest at this church. Apparently they all have a long tenures. He lives with his family and the rectory across the street If you visit, please make sure you leave a donation, it’s the least you can do.

Beautiful building
This building really stands out for the different style of architecture, obviously with a Russian influence. Tip: go to the gift shop next store for very unique gifts - all are very authentic - bought painted eggs that were very reasonable priced. The volunteer in the gift shop was very helpful in answering questions about the area.
