Good museum to visit while in the area
There are plenty of pictures opportunities outside this building. It is situated opposite the main mosque, and close to the art gallery. Entry is free. But registration is required. This museum is in an old building (wooden) so you can appreciate the inside of the building. As for taking pictures, it is not allowed in the exhibition areas. Here you'll be able to see vintage items used used by the royal families. This being a royal museum, you will find plenty information about them. Shoes need to be left outside near the main entrance. Plenty of steps / stairs in the museum. Not wheelchair friendly. It is airconditioned and well lit. Near the museum is 'the frame' for pictures and other buildings related to the museum but they are not open for public.

Interesting and free. Important to also go to the state museum
Very interesting and informative if you are interested in history and especially royalty. Can see everything in about an hour, but it’s quite difficult to understand/remember the royal lineage unless you analyse carefully and remember the names. Free of charge

Museum of the Royal Family
The Kedah Royal Museum is the former palace of the royal family of Kedah, but now a museum exhibiting various items related to the royal family and their history. The museum is free to enter and surprisingly well maintained for some that is free. As for the inside, there isn’t really that much to see. The museum is actually just a few rooms and you can get through it in15 to 30 minutes. The museum is located near the Alor Setar Tower and pretty much where most of the attractions of Ipoh are, so it’s worth a detour.
