    Beautiful Alpine lake in the Pamir mountains
    Beautiful Alpine lake in the Pamir mountains. We did nto stya here, but had lunch at one of the few homestays here, after crossing the border from Kyrgyzstan into Tajikistan. The Lake is an alpine/basin lake, so it has no river draining it. So over time, due to evaporation , the lake becomes saline, with no visible marine life in it. The town of Karakul is small, and bleak as there is no vegetation here. Worth a brief stop to check it out when driving along the Pamir highway

    A great gorgeous lake
    This lake is super beautiful,I tried hitchhiking to this place from Murghab which was very hard specially at the cold season,but I got there anyway and I didn't fancy getting out of the car as it was freezing and windy. I enjoyed the view while passing the road. The lake must be nice for water sports!
