Be on the Bridge when the Train passes!!
The bridge is full of historical significance, and the Bangkok - Namtok train still runs on it. Its fun just to walk along it, but to make it really exciting, time yourself to be there when the train actually goes onto it ... and stand on the platforms that sticks out all along the length of the bridge as it "zooms" pass (no worries, it goes really slow on the bridge so people can stay clear!). We did this during sunset (train is the one leaving Namtok at 15:30 to Bangkok) and you should be at the bridge around 5:30 latest, earlier would be safer, the one I saw crossed at 5:46 pm - see photo)

Historical must see
After watching film and reading books about the Bridge of the River Kwai during World War II it was an amazing piece of historical engineering to see. There is only one train that passes through each day so it’s possible to walk along the tracks both sides to take photo’s. It can be busy. There are plenty of places to eat and drink. If you are there around midday you will see the train arrive. We purchased a ticket to ride the train for an hour up the railway track which was very interesting viewing the countryside.
