The cradle and former capital of the Red Government

In 1931, Ruijin is where the Chinese Soviet Republic was established, and in the efforts of forming a peaceful development plan, a People's Commission of Diplomacy was created. In the late 1920s, to escape the Kuomintang, the Communists fled Jinggangshan and moved to Ruijin, in the mountains of Jiangxi Province. Ruijin and places along the Long March route are place where Maoists and others go on pilgrimages to experience some elements of the Long March. The Long March began here when Chiang Kai-shek’s Kuomintang (KMT) army encircled the Red Azrmy. The Red Army managed to escape in October of 1934, and that was the commencement of the one year, over 6,400 kilometre Long March, in which thousands of Red Army members were killed en route, or died from the harsh conditions encountered on the Long March. There are monuments, statues, and museums in the area, dedicated to the early history/cradle of the PRC. There is a lot to see in this scenic/historic area. Prior to coming here, I had not heard of this Soviet involvement in China's history.
