Shanghai Family to Yangzhou for the weekend
It is a wonderful lake that offers so much history spanning back to the 7th Century. It is grandiose and I highly recommend taking your family on a boat trip. The gardens are immaculate and there are places for children, we discovered a small petting zoo and a few slides. Therefore we were all entertained sufficiently!

Yangzhou's iconic sight
A perfect place to visit in the summer, the only problem is that everyone else will be visiting it then too; as soon as you arrive you can either walk along the river or get a boat cruise across the beautiful water which reflects the hanging trees and clear sunny skies above. Along the sides of the river are hundreds of different kinds of plants of all different sizes and colours and paths leading in different directions, giving something new to discover each time you visit. At the centre of the lake rests the most famous landmark in the city of Yangzhou, the Five pavilion bridge, it's bright colours look beautiful in the sunlight and is usually filled with other people coming to visit. As you explore the different parts of the lake you can see birds like swans or peacocks and groups of people taking the perfect photo. You see the traditional Chinese architecture, old buildings lost behind plant life and different paths to explore.

A must see experience.
We were fortunate enough to have a local take us through and we really enjoyed every pert of it. This is a massive garden , it is about the size of a suburb,so here are a few tips. Go mid week if you can as it is less crowded. Definitely buy a map at the entrance, you will get lost otherwise. Give your self a minimum of 3 hours here, and possibly more. There are cafes for lunch, boat hire and plenty of pavilions, water features, gardens and bridges. Start at the south gate and aim to walk through to the North gate, that is the best route. If you are stuck halfway near the closing time you can get an electric cart ride out for RMB 10, but you may need to ask for help to find the bus/cart pick up points. The toilets are Chinese, but they were very clean , make sure you take a half roll of toilet paper in your day bag. ( Very important )!!
