A historic treasure in trouble.
I have visited the Jefferson Ordnance Magazine many time over the years and each time it seems the Big Cypress Bayou bank gets closer and closer to the historic building. It is truly a valuable experience to visit such a historic treasure. It can be seen from the river if you are in a boat or from the opposite bank if you are riding on the Historic Jefferson Railway. Hopefully in the near future guided tours may come available. You can visit the HJF website for more information, www.historijeffersonfoundation.com This building has been entered into the most endangered buildings in Texas and donations are graciously accepted to help stabilize the river bank.

The Historic Jefferson Foundation is very proud of the beautiful Candlelight tour through our precious historic town. The decorations and romance was all that Christmas represents.

History
I saw this during a boat tour and the guide explained how much this piece of history has been loved/maintained by the townspeople. It originally was closer to the river and everyone was scared that it would wash away. The town pulled resources/money together to save it by having it moved further away from the river and a foundation added. It was privately funded so that the federal government couldn't have an opportunity to ever destoy their civil war history. The guide also stated that it was never used due to any battles being fought near the town. Who knew one tiny brick structure had so much information attached to it
