    Fun little ride
This is a fun ride to take to experience early commuting for those trying to reach their nice homes on the hill at lunch. We parked in the neighborhood at the top and rode down. It's street parking only. The neighborhood at the bottom also has street parking and several shops along the block. Only a few were open as it was a Sunday morning. If you can park in a larger lot a few blocks away, just walk over. If you don't like being around people, you may find the close quarters of the little box that you ride in too tiny for your liking. Only six or eight (can't remember which) people at a time can ride in the carriage, so you may have to wait for your turn. When we reached the top again, it was only 11 a.m., and a long line had formed. There are two decks for you to take pictures from and enjoy the view. You pay $4 round-trip or $2 one-way at the top where the operator is located. It's cash only.

Must visit this at least once!
Everyone who had gone to Dubuque told us that we had to visit Cable Car Square and take the elevator up and down the hill. I'm glad we listened to them. It was fun seeing how this elevator worked, and enjoyed our ride down. We spent about 2 or 3 hours in town stopping for lunch, heading to the Mississippi Museum for a 4 D movie we paid for the day before, and eating ice cream before heading back up the elevator. We didn't have to wait too long coming down in the morning, but going up we had to wait for about 25 minutes. Keep this in mind if you have to be somewhere.
