  1. 5.0 St. Luke's United Methodist Church (90 reviews)
    - Oh the windows!!!
Spent 1-2 hours Churches & Cathedrals
St. Luke's United Methodist Church image
We went to St. Luke's on a Friday morning to see the Tiffany stained glass windows. Oh my, they were gorgeous! Mary provided our tour and was a wealth of information. Not only did she tell the story of each window, but she also welcomed and answered all of our questions. These windows are unlike any stained glass you've ever seen before. You will not regret spending time here. It is free to enter the church, but a free-will donation to maintain the windows is requested. See more..

    Wineries & Vineyards
    Barrel Head Winery image
The owner was super knowledgeable and very informative. His vineyard is not huge by any means, but this is what adds to this locations ambiance. The owner took the time with out group to teach is how to properly taste the wine and be able to distinguish different tastes! They totally went above and beyond to make us feel at home. I will be returning here for sooner rather than later. I hope his next year's crop is the best he has ever had. See more..

After seeing several shows at the Bell Tower, it's clear that they are THE place for good clean comedy in Dubuque! Their season of shows has a variety of straight comedies and musicals. The theater itself is a beautiful intimate space, especially at Christmas. Those decorations are gorgeous. Great view of downtown Dubuque, the Mississippi River and 3 states. Buses should go to the bottom of the bluff. Please use 4th and Bluff Streets for GPS. 10. 4.5 Eagle Point Park (578 reviews)
    - Lovely park, but…
    Friday: 7:00 AM - 11:00 PM Parks
    Eagle Point Park image
Gorgeous historic park with stunning views of the river and surrounding vistas. Be forewarned that they charge $1 (cash only) per carload to enter the park. They actually pay someone to stand in a booth and collect your $1. Hardly seems worth it but whatever. Also, the park is not pet friendly. Your dog or cat must remain in your vehicle or you risk getting fined. We drove 2 hours to picnic at this park with our dog. We were very disappointed that our small pup could not get out of the car. He was very anxious to get out. There were tons of people traipsing all over their precious grounds and yet dogs aren’t allowed. Very weird. We drive through and left to go to nearby A.Y. McDonald park where we picnicked at a table in a sunny spot with our dog for free! See more..

Dubuque Arboretum and Botanical Gardens image
We quite enjoyed this beautiful arboretum and gardens. We walked through the gardens (about 10 acres) and spent some time in the visitor's center in addition to driving through the arboretum (about 50 acres). Everything is beautiful and well card for by the volunteers. There is no charge to enjoy this wonderful place but we did leave a donation and purchased a couple of things at the visitor's center. A free map is available at the visitor's center, as well as clean free rest rooms. See more..

Very interesting area and some great view of the River See more..
  13. 4.5 Stone Cliff Winery (223 reviews)
    - A great little gem of a place in Dubuque. Great food and wine.
    Friday: 11:00 AM - 9:00 PM Wineries & Vineyards
    Stone Cliff Winery image
In 1996, Nan and Bob Smith, future vineyard owners, decided to return to Nan’s hometown of Dubuque, to raise their two daughters in a small town environment. They purchased the Stone Cliff Farm near Durango Iowa and planned to conventionally farm the land. However, as happens in life, one thing lead to another, and one day over a good bottle of wine, Bob and Nan Smith thought maybe they could do something different with their farm, like raise grapes and maybe eventually operate a winery to turn those grapes into wine. They immediately started going to conferences and taking classes to learn the wine industry as well as the art of making wine. With the help of family and the community, all done by hand, they planted their first 2000 vines. In 2007 the winery was relocated to the “Port of Dubuque” in the historic Star Brewery building overlooking the mighty Mississippi. Our tasting room offers not only award-winning wines, but also various draft and bottled beer selections as well See more..

    - Well Done Attraction
Spent 1-2 hours Piers & Boardwalks • Scenic Walking Areas
    Riverwalk image
We were to have a guide but he didn't show up. However, that was no problem as the sights were well described by markers along the way. Also, there was no problem about finding your path. The shot tower was a unique building for us and we also found the brewery and convention center to be very attractive. We were impressed by how all the benches and lookouts were donated. See more..
  15. 4.5 Julien Dubuque Monument (85 reviews)
    - River view, history, short stroll

    Julien Dubuque Monument image
The river views alone are worth the stop. You can park and stroll the sidewalk to the lookout and monument. Historical plaques are displayed for your information about Dubuque and the Mines of Spain. Julien Dubuque’s remains are inside the monument tower. You cannot go inside the monument. It is locked and hollow inside. There is a nice lookout of the Mississippi River here with expansive views to the north, east, and south. I recommend a stop here. See more..

    - Very interesting glimpse into the past.
Friday: 11:00 AM - 4:00 PM Historic Sites
    Mathias Ham Historic Site image
Personally, I thought the video introduction was surprisingly professionally done. It was quite informative and well presented. Just enough history to be informative, just enough personal information to feel like we know a little about the original resident. The costumed "interpreters" were fun and informative. They explained some details that I certainly would have missed. It was good to learn some details of the what and why of similar things I have seen touring other old mansions. They are a great addition for a tour. This trip to Dubuque was the first that the house has been open since it is seasonal. Not sure if I would go back again soon, but will in coming years. Not all kids would appreciate it, especially young ones, but older kids or adults with any interest in the past should. Very close to Eagle Point Park. See more..

    Freddie's Popcorn Company image
While strolling down Main Street, I randomly came cross this shop and was really glad I went in! The popcorn was delish and the owners were really nice! They sell out pretty quick especially when there are farmer markets days in the summer so make sure you call ahead for the flavors. Parking is hard to find as this is right in downtown but there is meter street parking available. The downtown area is really nice too – great little shops that have food and coffee! See more..
  23. 4.5 Veteran's Memorial Plaza (14 reviews)
    - Beautifully redone in May 2021... this is one of the BEST Veteran's Memorials our family has seen in America!
Spent < 1 hour Points of Interest & Landmarks • Monuments & Statues
    Veteran's Memorial Plaza image
This memorial was just redone in May 2021 and it is absolutely BEAUTIFUL!!! Seriously, it is one of the BEST memorials we have seen in all our travels across America. All the wars are represented on pillars - listing the number of people who served and those who were KIA and POW - will definitely make you pause and reflect on the sacrifices of those men and women. There are personalized pavers and benches already out and more available. The Vietnam Memorial was relocated from Miller Riverview Park and looks better than ever. There is a special garden area that is in the shape of the USS Oklahoma, where Chaplain Schmitt perished on 12/07/1941 - the island where this memorial is located is named after him. The pier with the silver statue is stunning and has a poem engraved inside. Everything lights up at night, so make sure to visit during both times of day. This is sure to be a favorite Dubuque stop for tourists and locals alike! See more..

4 adults and 2 children spent 1 night at Grand Harbor, and we really enjoyed our stay. I can't say enough about everything including front desk, wait staff, and house keeping. Everyone was pleasant and helpful. The resort has several room types, but we picked a nice 7th floor room with an amazing view of the Mississippi River. The bar/restaurant (Tony Romas)has a large deck that extends right up to the river walk. There is waterpark attached and our grandkids had a blast. This was such an enjoyable experience we will return for next summer. See more..
  30. 3.5 Shot Tower (87 reviews)
    - Can’t go in... hard to find, but still worth a look
Points of Interest & Landmarks • Observation Decks & Towers
    Shot Tower image
First of all, trust google maps to get you there. It will lead you through an industrial area, past trucks, but the tower is indeed there, surrounded by factories. You can’t go in, but there is a pretty nice display, describing how lead was heated, poured through a pan with holes in it so the melted metal would form ball-shape droplets before dropping into a water bath pretty neat.
