Lovely park, but…

Gorgeous historic park with stunning views of the river and surrounding vistas. Be forewarned that they charge $1 (cash only) per carload to enter the park. They actually pay someone to stand in a booth and collect your $1. Hardly seems worth it but whatever. Also, the park is not pet friendly. Your dog or cat must remain in your vehicle or you risk getting fined. We drove 2 hours to picnic at this park with our dog. We were very disappointed that our small pup could not get out of the car. He was very anxious to get out. There were tons of people traipsing all over their precious grounds and yet dogs aren’t allowed. Very weird. We drive through and left to go to nearby A.Y. McDonald park where we picnicked at a table in a sunny spot with our dog for free!

    Beautiful and Interesting View
We stopped by mid-October when the leaves were beginning to turn - it was a beautiful view. My husband and I also fortunate to arrive about 15 minutes before a barge was leaving the lock. We enjoyed watching the workers on the barge, and eventually watching the ship push its way down the Mississippi. It was a very popular place for pictures as we noticed photographers taking picture of families, proms and weddings. Definitely a place to stop for an hour or two.

    Good time
This was a cool park! You have to bike all the way to the top of the hill to see what's there. Not going to spoil the surprise but worth going up all those hills. Lots going on in summer. This connects with other paths or you can just bike around the city. It was a lot of fun people watching and the cars are cool with the bicyclists.
