Beautiful, free and well-maintained!

We quite enjoyed this beautiful arboretum and gardens. We walked through the gardens (about 10 acres) and spent some time in the visitor's center in addition to driving through the arboretum (about 50 acres). Everything is beautiful and well card for by the volunteers. There is no charge to enjoy this wonderful place but we did leave a donation and purchased a couple of things at the visitor's center. A free map is available at the visitor's center, as well as clean free rest rooms.

    Fantastic gardens, highly recommended.
This is my third trip to this garden. In summary, it is spectacular. While I would have expected to pay $5 to $10 per person, it is free. That makes it even more surprising. There are several different areas and each is great on it's own and even better when grouped together in one experience. Don't miss feeding the fish in the pond, it is fun to see them swarm for the food. That is 25 cents per portion and is the only thing you pay for, other than the gift shop. The grounds are very well kept and everything was nice on my visits. If you want to relax a bit, I recommend the deck off the upper floor of the visitor center. Personally, I could sit there for hours just relaxing. The only down side is that some of the areas may be challenging for wheelchairs. There is a lot to see if you are mobility challenged, but some areas, like the pond, are difficult or more for those guests. Highly recommended.

    Hosta Experts!
This garden in the Dubuque suburbs has an overwhelming abundance of very well kept hostas and other shade plants. Nice! Also included is a Japanese garden complete with koi (bring a quarter if you want to feed them!) In June, 2020, social distancing was still a real concern, and masks were required to enter the gift shop/ restroom area. We noticed many locals bringing lawn chairs for impromptu gatherings in the garden - it's a favorite.
