John Deere Pavilion, Illinois, United States

Spectacular Displays!

Colorful, bright, hands-on displays of John Deere tractors are delightfully arranged throughout the museum! The pavilion itself has fabulous wrought iron sculptures in the ceiling. The combine in the middle of the pavilion is ginormous...the friendly staff said the cost is 1.1 million! Visitors can sit in the cabs of the different tractors. There's plenty of educational interactive exhibits. People of all ages were enjoying the whole experience. I highly recommend this activity to all! And it's free. (Across from the Pavilion is a John Deere store...what fun but NOT free! )

    Great for guys and girls.
This was a stop on our trip that we thought was just for my husband, but it proved to be interesting for all of us. My 11 and 14 year old daughters had their arms crossed and bored look on their faces as we entered the Pavillion and an hour and a half later they didn't want to leave. They climbed on every tractor there and push the buttons and pulled the knobs of the $375,000 toys. They made a stop action film in the new hands on activity area for kids too. We stopped on over to the gift shop to add a pressed penny to our collection. The tour was free and ended up being more interesting than other stops on our trip where we paid $30 or more to get in to. FYI they do not allow food or drink. I had a water bottle in my hand and they asked me to leave it at the front desk until we were done with our tour.

    Showcasing John Deere
The Pavilion was less extensive than expected, but showcased some innovative (and pricy) equipment (X9 Combine and a massive tractor) as well as some historic equipment (old 1947 combine and an older steel wheeled tractor). The John Deere Store provided great selection of Deere related clothing, scale die-cast toys, puzzles, etc. The Pavilion did not show the evolution of John Deere from its steel plow beginnings to the agricultural and construction equipment of today. The factories in East Moline and Waterloo might provide more. Be sure to drive by the Harvester and Seeding factories to see the huge inventory of new equipment at each.
