Pisco and Huacachina

We had a great private day trip with our guide Evy! First stop was pisco distillery for a tour and tastings, second stop a winery for lunch, and third stop Huacachina! Ica is a long distance from Lima so I can’t stress enough how nice it was to travel in a personal car versus a bus with multiple people! I personally thought Huacachina oasis itself was underwhelming and the sand dunes seemed to be the main attraction but the day as a whole was fun. If you aren’t interested in buggy rides/sand boarding it’s probably not worth going here. Evy was extremely accommodating and easy to talk to! If considering visiting Huacachina would recommend booking it with Exploor.

beautiful oasis surrounded by sand dunes
We stayed in Ica and went in the afternoon to the oasis and we really loved it . We went on dune buggying and also sand boarding and the best time is taking the ride at 4pm so when you are finishing its possible to see the sunset from the top of the desert. Really cool place

An oasis town of about 120 people, so we were told, just outside Ica. It's about an hour and a half south of Paracas. It's quite an amazing sight to see this oasis come into view. There's nightlife, restaurants, hotels all within walking distance from each other around the oasis. The water does not look very clean and, unfortunately, there's litter and garbage here and there. It's a re-education for the tourists and locals alike with regards to bad habits. However, the city (I would presume Ica), has installed generators to pump the water out and through to keep it circulated for health and sanitation reasons. This is a must stop if you're in the neighbourhood. We went dune buggying and sand boarding which was quite exhilarating. We recommend these activities. From the top of the sand dunes the scenic view of the oasis with the town surrounding it makes for a great photo any time of the day. A visit or preferably at least an overnight stop is Highly Recommended!
