Zhurong Peak, Hunan, China
4.0 (19 reviews) Spent Ranking #2 in Hengyang Lookouts
Highest peak in Hengshan
Zhurong Peak is the highest peak amongst the 72 peaks in Hengshan. I hiked from the base of mountain to its midway & took the cable car. After the cable car ride, it was still another 1 hour uphill climb along the road to reach the peak. A Taoist temple resides at the top, with many locals offering incense & prayers. As I visited in beginning April, the surrounding scenery is not that great as some trees are barren. Nevertheless, I was glad I made it to the top, being able to hike one of the 5 main mountains in China.

Peak with a nice view and money machine
After finishing the hike next to the street with many hiking busses we finally passed the top cable car station and the busses were not permitted to go further. Now a hike with hundreds of other people starts but that’s normal in China. It was still ok. The top peak has a nice view around and I really can imagine, why the emperors came to here in the past. However, the ever burning flames of praying sticks and candles making it a bit misty... I still enjoyed it.
