It's not Niagara Falls but BaiGuoShu offers much better scenery
About an hour's drive outside of Yichang city center is the beautiful scenic area of The BaiGuoShu (also know as The Three Gorges Waterfalls). Part of a larger park, make this one of the sites to see while visiting Yichang. Most tour companies offer one to two trips there daily. I am not sure of public bus service there. There are many small food vendors and small tourist gift shops upon entering the actual park. For those pressed for time or physically unable, for an additional fee you can get a tram to drive you from the parking lot to the park entrance, otherwise a 4km hike in which will at times be uphill. The scenery to the smaller and main waterfall is quite beautiful, there are a few suspension bridges and observation sites as well. If you plan to go underneath the main waterfall be sure to bring a raincoat and something to keep your shoes dry as well, otherwise best to buy both from one of the sellers in the parking lot entrance 5 RMB for a disposable raincoat, 1 RMB for the shoe protection (basically plastic around your feet and legs). The price goes up to 10 RMB for a disposable raincoat or 20 RMB for a rental of a proper raincoat once inside the park itself. Make sure your tour gives you at least 3 hours to visit all of this site. My only disappointment was due to highway construction going on right now on the main way to the park is we lost out on enough time to truly see the site. We'll go back again perhaps on our own to fully appreciate this beautiful location and check out near by (4 km away) the Golden Lion Caves.
