Beautiful Park Great Day Trip!

We drove out here mid October from Eastern Mass. The foliage was unbelievable in the park, full peak. We arrived and drove by Bray Lake on the left. There were restrooms that were open. We drove further into the park, plenty of hiking trails. We parked (playground by the hiking area) and went to Goat Peak Observation. Short hike up, pretty easy and the last 10 mins is more uphill but still easy. When you get to the top, go to the right, there is an overlook with great views of the town below. The go to the left up the stairs to the Fire Tower stairs with an even better view of what's around. Drove back to Bray Lake, parked there and walked in the woods, a little confusing on where the trails go but we figure it out for the most part. Nice hike through the woods. Good day here, nice views, good hikes. Next time we will come early and hike Mt. Tom.

    Short hike to the ruins
We went to Mount Tom to hike to the ruins. The drive on Christopher Clark Rd. affords great views. We parked in the lot near Lake Bray. It was about an eighth of a mile to the T. Bagg trailhead. From there, it's a 1.5 mile hike to the ruins. The trails are very well marked until you get to the paved road near the ruins. While the white trail marker on the tree points you left, the ruins are up a narrow trail to the right, once you cross a parking lot. There's a sign in the lot, pointing up that trail. There's also some information about the hotel that once stood there. On the way up, there's a nice vista called Dry Knoll. There's a box on the tree that contaiins a book, encouraging hikers to write a note about their visits to Mt. Tom. There are several trails throughout the reservation to explore. The ruins of the hotel are cool. Because they're perched up high, the views through the arches are nice.

    Best of the M&M
Mt Tom offers loads of trails starting and ending in Easthampton, Holyoke and Northampton. It is my favorite portion of the M&M trail which extends from CT to NH, due to the beautiful views from the cliffs looking out over Easthampton. There are several tourist points to visit including the site of the old Summit House, the WWII B17 crash site and monument and the ruins of the old Eyrie House. The mountain offers hiking for all skill levels from beginner to difficult. I often use it as a major source of cardio exercise, hiking appx. 2.5 miles with a 700 foot elevation gain and decline loop since I am only 10 minutes from the mountain. No better reward during exercise than beautiful views. Only negative is that unfortunately derelicts have defaced much of the mountain cliffs along the summit which retracts from it's natural beauty, but when you venture past this popular area the defacing decreases considerably.
