not only for the sweet potatoes...
I was lucky enough to be hosted by a local family in Banz, near the Wahgi river. They sowed me around, explained the culture and made me feel like family! If you do go, eat the "wahgibesta" (best of wahgi river) sweet potatoes :)

Kayaking the Wahgi
The Simbu section of the mighty Wahgi River provides one of the best kayaking and whitewater rafting spots in the Highlands of Papua New Guinea. Starting from Kondiu, Kerowagi or Marane down to Gumine, there are many grade 4 and 5 rapids. One can also start at the Wara Simbu bridge near Kundiawa. I started at a place some distance above the bridge where the locals called '6 round' down with some local boys. It was great.
