Museum of Mirko Komnenovich, Herceg-Novi Municipality, Montenegro

Lovely little museum

Has a lot of history of Herceg Novi. Very reasonable price (€3). Small, so don't expect to spend longer than 20-30 mins, but worth a visit.

    Nice Museum
Considering the lack of funding the museum is in great shape. Its definitely worth a visit and features a lot of Herceg Novi history. It is also located on a scenic lot with a great view of the bay.

House of former mayor, overlooking the bay; friendly multi-lingual guide
I stumbled upon the Museum of Mirko Komnenivih as I was walking along the bay promenade and was caught in a sudden rain shower. After mounting dozens of steps traversing a botanical garden, I found myself in the rear courtyard of an 18th century baroque house with archaeological fragments lying about. The house is the former residence of Herceg Novi's mayor Mirko Komnenovich (mid-20th century; Yugoslavia period), who graciously donated it to the city in 1953. Various rooms contain period furniture, ethnic clothing, icons, weapons and other artifacts. The collection spans a large time frame, from Greek amphora, through the city's founding in 1382, through the end of World War II. The caretaker was very knowledgeable, friendly, and spoke excellent English (alas, my command of Montenegrin is sorely lacking). The house and gardens gave me insight into the life of Mayor Komnenovich and his wife, Olga. From the back courtyard overlooking the bay I could watch the rain clouds rise over the town and surrounding mountains. The museum is open Friday and Saturdays from 9am to 9pm. Admission for an adult is 3 Euros, for a child 1 Euro (there is a group discount).
