A hidden gem

I cant believe like most people i just drive past this it was so lovely. lots of lovely towns Le Crotoy and St Valerie and easy to get around with cycle ways everywhere. i would just warn people thought about the strange tides and so that swimming in the sea is very restricted and not really ideal for children in some places. Quend Plage was the best place we found although the town needs a little investment.

    St Valery sur Somme
If you like wondering around old French towns, you'll love St Valery. The old city walls, the prison where Joan of Arc was inprisoned, the churches and the sceanery. The town has many fine sea food restaurants the competition helps keep the prices very reasonable. We dined on fruits de mer plus a bottle of wine for 10 euros. Excelent value. There is a narrow gauge railway that takes you round the bay to La Crotoy, again, the town is full of sea food restaraunts. I had the best oysters I have ever tasted from a stall on the habour front. All in all, a great place for a long weekend. It is also a good base for visiting WW1 battle sites, plus Agincourt and Crecy. I was told that in spring it is paradise for birdwatchers. Mike O'C
