Excellent museum
The Caesarea Museum is in the vaults underneath the old Temple of Augustus. The museum was excellent with a good film explaining how the site came into being and then lots of excavated artifacts from the site. Free to enter as well.

An INCREDIBLE archaeological and historical must-see!
The entire site is located right on the Mediterranean Sea and very well laid out. The amphitheater faces the sea, so sunrises and sunsets are stunning to watch while listening to the waves crash. Many archaeological pieces are mounted on stands and clearly marked in both Hebrew and English so that you understand the origin and meaning of each piece. Herod's Hippodrome is absolutely massive. It truly gave us the sense of the wealth and opulence of Herod's regime. There are places where you can dip your toes right into the Mediterranean Sea. It's truly a spectacular place to visit.

Oceanfront ruins
It was refreshing to find Roman ruins right on the water, after visiting sites in Turkey (like Ephesus), which had silted up over time. There was a very nice introductory film, followed by a guided tour. The well-preserved amphitheater still hosts musical groups, and the hippodrome was also in very good shape. Further excavations are underway on this well-financed project, which is popular with the local people.
