Do you have a 6-star rating? Guntersville is best in the state -- maybe in the southeast!
I've visited many, many lakes in many states, and even lived on some other lakes. But there's nothing like Lake Guntersville! It's best of the best. Easily reached and easily navigable area. Picturesque -- especially at sundown! The lake itself is scenic, convenient, absolutely LOADED with so many kinds of fish -- especially well-known as the best bass fishing in the state (Bassmaster's Classic was held there), and also as being the best for the size of its plentiful crappie (2.5 and 3 lb. slabs are common). It now also hosts pro high-speed boat races. Exciting! Many amenities available nearby, including some of the best park trails -- both foot and bike -- kids or adult. Quality of life is wonderful in this charming town. Traffic is not heavy; driving from anywhere in the area to anywhere else in the area is a snap. Many, many restaurants provide terrific food and variety. There are some hotels, but the number of vacation rental houses around the lake is tremendous -- some are to die for! Great bargains are often available on these houses & chalets if you book well in advance. If you're used to hotels & motels, you've gotta try this change-of-pace option around Lake Guntersville for your next accommodations -- whether it's on the water or not! Need access to some of a larger city's benefits? Guntersville is a short, easy drive back-and-forth to Huntsville (in one direction), and to Boaz shopping (in the other direction). Boat ramps abound on this lake, and many of them are free (with parking!) Swimming, boating, skiing, fishing, sightseeing, relaxing... we have never found as great a place for all of the above. It even has a large state park, with a huge lodge (containing two great restaurants, beautiful rooms recently renovated, and not expensive), as well as cabins of all types (or camping, if that's what you like).... even a course of zip-lines for all ages and degrees of experience. Guntersville has it all -- a museum, art shows, free concerts and musical sessions -- both indoor and outdoor -- small town feel, but with all the city-type amenities (and ample free parking!). Lake Guntersville is at least an "every-other-vacation" site for our family. We've been to many others, but it's really hard to top this!

Beautiful lake with room for all
Spent an afternoon on the lake in a large pontoon. Cruised for 4 hours. The weather was perfect, the lake beautiful. Water not as clear as I'm used to from Up North (WI), but did swim.
