Precious textiles and jewellery.

When in Kaili, this museum must not be missed. There is a large collection of clothing, textiles and jewellery from the Miao community. It is far better than the Guiyang museum.

    Miao Tribe show place
I have been to Guizhou many times, visiting various Miao villages and the colourful "Miao new year" (in Nov.) parades. This museum has an extensive collection of what the Miao people, especially their females, wear eg silver ornaments and headwears, costumes, etc. A great place for understanding the Miao culture.

Beautiful Collections of Miao Costumes and Silverware
We had a museum guide introduce us through the various collections in the Museum. He was clear in his explanation of the Miao myths, customs, costumes and the use of silver in their daily life. Photography is not allowed. At the end of the tour, the guide led us down to the lower floor. He then demonstrated the power of silver to reduce toxicity in water. Guests were first given paper cups of water to drink, then given water in silver cups to try and told to compare the taste. We did not attempt the taste test. There is a retail shop selling silver jewellery and accessories on this floor. Go through the shop, browse and buy if you wish. If not, turn left up some stairs and you'd be out of the museum.
