Gudong Waterfall, Guangxi, China

4.5 (32 reviews) Spent Ranking #1 in Lingchuan County Waterfalls

Fun Adventure

It was really exciting to climb up the waterfall, and it's not just one waterfall. It's a whole series of waterfalls. Also, even though it's exciting, it's very safe. They have special grass shoes and safety helmets as well as a chain to hold on to. I highly recommend it especially in the hot summer months.

Absolutely Fantastic If you Like Well Preserved Waterfalls
We took a 1/2 day tour of this "ecology park". It was very well done by Chinese standards and was delightful, even in the middle of winter (although nobody swam in the tempting waterfall pools). This is one of the few places with 10 meter waterfalls that I have visited in a variety of countries (Hawaii, Malaysia, Japan) where you can actually take a swim under the waterfall and climb up it. Not just one waterfall, but 5 beautiful falls that would be the envy of any Hawaiian Island. The local government has made good efforts at making the park educational for Chinese visitors as to the need to preserve what nature has provided including a very touching list of "extinct species since 1950" each marked with a cross as if a grave. There are a lot of other nice touches including some Taoist shrines and there is a long span hanging bridge that is perfect for memorable pictures (and just a little bit scary for the kids). There are two "rides" after your get to the top of the waterfalls that make the return journey a lot of fun. One involves strapping on a harness and sliding across a 30 meter valley on a suspended wire for about 300 meters. Really fun! The other rise is a "luge" type ride where you return to the bottom of the park on two rails. Not terribly ecologically sensitive but great fun. Neither type of ride would ever be experienced is a US theme park given liability concerns. Enjoy at your risk!
