Great Beach and Coastal Hiking

Though not as popular as Dameisha beach, Xichong is just as lovely and the water and sand are clean and perfect for swimming.

one of the coolest beaches in china
i visited xichong beach during qinmin festival in april 2021. as these days are public holidays, we spent more time on the road than we'd on a regular day (it took 4 hours from the beach to Shenzhen by car on our way back) the beach itself is very good, clean and big. entrance fee is 30 rmb. it's a popular spot among the surfers, there're many surf-clubs and you can rent a board, equipment or get a lesson easily. there's also parking and a shop at the beach. what was a small disappointment, the fact that you can't get in the water and swim unless you surf. eventually we could get into the water for a swim, but not for long, there're guards who wouldn't let ppl swim. of course, we could go into the water ankle-deep, to take pictures, which was enough for local people, but i was a bit sad that i couldn't get a proper swim. i'd come back there to surf, i liked the views and the village is cool, many places to stay and grab a bite.

Nice place fast turning into a money-grabbing hot-spot
All about the money This area used to be less about capitalism and consumerism. The grotesque reality is that they will try to rip you off a lot for a “communist” country. Oh have a disposable income and free time young lad? Well it’ll bloody cost you for any comfort. Specific examples include: *Having to pay at the gate to access beach more than once in the same day. Even if you identify yourself as having paid they will charge you to re-enter. That means, if you want to go back to your hotel, or to meet someone and show them to your spot... you have to pay again. Outrageous extortion! We had to pay at the gate again on the evening and we only wanted to go to a bar (which was also over-priced). *to use a beach tent costs a fortune. 400 for a few hours. That’s more than it cost our hotel room per night! I don’t expect things to be free but I don’t like business and local governments to take advantage of my tourism.
