For a nice stroll & scenic photos

A bridge with scenic view. Recommend setting aside an hour for a slow stroll on the bridge. The start of the bridge (from Guangji gate of the heritage town) tends to be crowded. Don’t be discouraged by this sight. Get onto the bridge & walk all the way to the other end. As you do so, you will find the experience gets more tranquil for you to enjoy the surrounding view.

A glimpse of a 1000 yr old bridge
I came to Chaozhou on 4 Oct 2018 during the Golden Week. The queue of visitors waiting to have a glimpse of this 1000 yr old ancient bridge was terribly long. It discouraged me from entering to feel the glory of this ancient magnificent infrastructure. However, I managed to take photos from the riverside boulevard and appreciated her beauty from a distance. China is proud of her spectacular infrastructure construction both in the modern era and those from the ancient days. It displays the ingenuity of the resourcefulness of the Chinese people and their resilience and capability to overcome challenges in engineering to improve the living environment. The modern China proudly presented the world's longest mega bridge built over the sea connecting Zhuhai, Macau and Hongkong. This Guangji Bridge was probably the `mega' project 1000 years ago. This bridge reminds me of the Zhongshan Iron Bridge in Lanzhou which replaced the floating Zhen Yuan Bridge that used 20 ships to connect in order to cross the Yellow River. That was one of China's primitive bridges that was poorly constructed to overcome the threat of floods. During Mao's era, China boasts of the construction of the robust Nanjing Bridge which she built on her own when her relationship with the Soviet Union soured and Russian bridge engineers suddenly abandoned the bridge construction forcing China to depend on her own engineers. Today's China has emerged as the world champion in infrastructure construction be it rail transportation, roads or bridges. China hopes to regain the engineering supremacy of the past. 1000 years ago, Guangji Bridge was probably the world's most advanced and sophisticated bridges and 1000 years later, the modern China is making engineering miracles to build hundreds and thousands of `Guangji Bridges' over the world regaining her renowned reputation of being the pioneer in sophisticated bridge construction. This bridge reminds us of the glory of ancient China's bridge construction.
