Nice hike, good scenery.
The hike from Fenghuang town to the Tian Chi Scenic Area is long, about 20km and takes about 4-5 hours. It's a good hike but don't carry too much and bring enough water to last you. There's a few nice scenic spots on the way up and don't be afraid to venture off the road a bit for a better look at something. Not all the best views can be seen right on the road. Once at the top you can pitch a tent and stay the night, have a fire, eat, relax, and enjoy yourself (not much else to do up there at night). If you stay the night make sure you get there before sundown so you can set up your tent because there's no light up there at all. If you're lucky you'll have good weather in the morning and get a nice sunrise and a chance for some nice photos. Be sure to bring some clothes for cool weather. I was on the mountaintop on 27 Sep and at night it cooled down to about 6-7C and was pretty windy. Morning was perfect, warmed up, no wind and fairly clear skies. If you want to see a place that most foreigners will never visit, then Fenghuang is a good place to come and enjoy yourself.
