Cool

This is a very neat watchtower, and if you look carefully, you can actually see a statue of a firefighter on the top.

    A prominent landmark
Nice to see that the place is duly maintained. If you visit most of the historical monuments in Grodno, you will come across this tower anyways.

Great mural, with a touch of whimsy.
Built in 1902 in Art Nouveau style, the current tower replaced the previous one that was thought too short. At 105 feet, the "new" 3-story one allowed someone to always be on duty watching for fires spreading in the city. If one were spotted, a bell would ring out. The building beside it, the old station, is now a museum. My spouse and I particularly enjoyed the large painted mural on its facade depicting 16 people dressed in historical firefighter and army uniforms. Look closely at the faces. The face of girl on the far right is almost identical to that of Mona Lisa. It's a great mural with a touch of whimsy!
