We did glacier cruises, water rafting, hiking, bus tours, and glacier trekking in Alaska, and I want to say glacier trekking is the best. We got to step on the glacier, taste the ice, and drink the glacier water. We are a group of 14 people with young children and teens. Our guides, Kandel and Taylor, were very patient with us from the beginning to the end. They also provided educational information that the kids felt they were fascinating. We took the “Bucket List “ tour in June 2022. We’ve flown over and landed on other glaciers in recent years, but this trip over and onto the Matanuska glacier demonstrated just how unique this glacier is. The highlight was landing and disembarking along the edge of a small lake that exists atop the glacier on top of 400 feet of ice. Mark, our pilot and owner of Sheep Mountain Lodge, gave us a great ride, provided expert commentary, and was focused on ensuring we had a great time.See more..

We took a helicopter tour with Matanuska Glacier Helicopters and had a wonderful time. First, a quick flight up to the glacier where we landed for a fantastic hike with our guide. There was nothing like being way up on the glacier, just us, listening to nothing but the glacier! Hiking around, seeing the features, tasting the glacial waters... it was amazing. Then we were picked up by the copter and treated to a longer flight over the glacier and the surrounding area. Indescribably beautiful. The experience was a once in a lifetime adventure.See more..
