Artist watercolour paper.

I had heard there was a paper mill in Loenen on a warm sunny day a nice bike ride from Arnhem through the woods. Paper mill was interesting t was not working but this allows you to see the machines close up the children were able to scoop there own paper.

Only working water/steam driven paper mill in the Netherlands.
The mill is not just a museum, at least once a week it's also a working paper mill. The paper is sold to support its existence. We were lucky the mill was operating the day we visited. Volunteers operate machinery and explain the history of the mill as well as the paper making process. Children get to make their own water marked sheet of paper. They love it. Along with the mill comes a long story. It goes back to 1622 (one of many water mills built along the water streams in the area). The mill was rebuilt several times due to fires. The mill, as it exists today. was built in 1886. Locally produced paper is for sale in a shed next to the mill. Don't miss the short movie in the entrance building. It's very instructive. You'll easily spend more than an hour. Some of the volunteers are very talkative. Entrance fee is 6 Euro's per adult. it supports the upkeep of the mill.

Clear explanation of the paper production process
This is a watermill-powered paper factory. A guide takes you through the entire process, from the raw plant fibers until the final paper product. Visitors can do the last step themselves. This is the only remaining paper factory out of many around here, working in this traditional manner. The place is hard to reach with public transport - it involves quite a walk.
