A lovely place to visit specially in the summer. Nevertheless, we enjoyed the tour without a guide in February. There is audio at certain points (only Dutch). Lots of information about the forestry projects and tools used. The coach house is used for catering now. It has been renovated beautifully. An interesting history of the owners together with the portraits. Worth a visit if you are in the area.

A highly memorable location, excellent food and service 10/10
The first mention of the castle was in 1260 after it was invaded and burned to the ground. A new stone castle was built. In 1280, the castle was once again invaded and the bailey destroyed. It is speculated that the castle included a small hall keep, had walls that were 1 metre thick and stood two stories tall. Like other castles in the Netherlands, Doorwerth Castle has a surrounding moat originally fed by the River Rhine. The castle was expanded during the 14th, 15th and 16th centuries and is currently rated the 4th most impressive castle in Netherlands. We had a Black Tie Gala Dinner, with real candles hanging from chandeliers attached to the wooden roof, in one of the outbuildings, perhaps previously a coach house.

Beautiful castle
I’m in doubt but in the end decided to rate 3* insteas of 4*. It was a good visit and we have no regrets. However, we would liked to have seen more rooms displayed in their historic use, instead of being used as castle and history exhibits. The flyer told us something about each room, but personally I missed a tourguide led tour or an audiotour. That would have been of great value to me. Nonetheless, beautiful castle and absolutely no regrets of our visit! Recommend visit time 2-3 hours.
