Not to be missed when in Culemborg

This is an extremely well done museum in the center of the village. There’s a lot to learn about this Dutch village, but earlier times are documented by recreating life in the orphanage that was once here. The town library and a nice small cafe with charming garden are also here.

    Well worth a visit
A wonderfully maintained / restored orphanage dating back to the 1560's, which provided a home to orphaned children for around 400 years. Well presented history, as you walk through various lovely rooms and spaces and learn about the daily life of the children and the people who cared for them. What a generous and forward thinking lady Elisabeth of Culemborg must have been.

Fascinating museum. Well worth a visit.
This is a former orphanage, but don't think Oliver Twist here. These children were well fed, well clothed and well educated. The museum has some fascinating facts about life in an orphanage, and is worth visiting. One draw back, like many smaller museums in the Netherlands, they do not accept cash. Some museums don't accept credit cards either, only accepting "pinning", ie. eftpos, which makes it very hard for foreigners to visit.
