Wrakkenmuseum, Friesland Province, The Netherlands

4.5 (164 reviews) Spent Ranking #2 in Terschelling Speciality Museums

A little gem!

This place is a little gem of a museum. It is crammed full of artefacts that have been rescued from the sea off the coast of Terschelling. The explanations are all in Dutch but really you don't need any, just go and view everything on display and it's a real feast for the eyes! Toys, coins, shoes, boxes, life preservers, endless ship related equipment, messages in bottles, one very large purple adult toy, which caused much hilarity with a group of German students and so much more! It is housed both in and outdoors and will take you around an hour to view everything. It's also a great cafe too. This is a must if you are on the island, you will not be disappointed!

    Small size - immense treasures
This museum shows the goods washed ashore from famous and less famous ships, it shows the stories, the salvaging, and much background. The museum centre is a cafe, everything around is loaded with divers helmets, cannons, bottle letters, compasses. Behind the museum is a huge pirate style salvage yard, for kids, with a table area. If you like nautical things, stories, explorers, definitely take some time to visit this museum.

    The beach on display
About anything you can find on the beach (especially after a storm) you could find in this museum. If you are interested in what actually has been found - this is a place to go.
