Wonderful museum
This wonderful museum in a beautiful historic building in the heart of Tegucigalpa is a must see for anyone visiting. The building alone is worth the visit, but be certain to spend some time in the inviting and informative expositions. And definitely stop by the gift shop on the way out... wonderful finds.

Very pleasant surprise in Tegus
The Museo para la Identidad Nacional is in El Centro part of town, towards the end of a pedestrian walkway referred to as Calle Peatonal that connects the Parque Central (where the Catedral San Miguel is) all the way down to the city's National Theater (called "Manuel Bonilla"). The whole area was a pleasant surprise in a city where there does not appear to be many walking areas. The Museum is very well kept and has an interesting section on Honduras history. It also had an temporary exhibition of a local artist (Felipe Burchard) who was good and provocative, and also a temporary exhibit from an italian artist. The building is from 1882 and was originally a hospital. It also offers a virtual tour of the Copan ruins which is very well presented and runs for about 17 minutes (it's in Spanish). I really enjoyed the Museum, and ended up spending a couple hours in it. It also has a well-presented gift shop. It was worth the $3 entrance fee ($1.50 if you don't see the Copan virtual tour). BTW, the official name of the pedestrian walk is Paseo Liquidambar, but I don't know whether the locals refer to it by this name.

A decent museum
An interesting museum on the history of the people of Honduras. Definitely helps if you speak Spanish. Had a nice young man as my guide who could speak some English. There are not a lot of exhibits but enough for me. The interactive media presentations were very good. Especially the little theater which had several videos on history (in Spanish). The one I saw on the creation story as found in the Copan ruins was really neat
