Downtown OWA Nice, But Not Enough To See
I can't say that we were disappointed with our visit to Downtown OWA in Foley, AL. Due to pre-planning our trip I knew of some of the struggles with store closures so I knew what to expect. Plus we were there during the off-season so many of the shops and restaurants were not opened when we arrived. Slowly some did during the two hours we were there. Overall the area is very clean, well maintained and the shops remind you of those that can be found in a small town. It was Halloween weekend so the decorations around the area were very nice. We stopped into a few of the shops that were open but our favorite was the Murder Creek Distillery. The specialty of the distillery is their moonshine in a variety of flavors from strawberry, chocolate, banana, pecan, etc. Of course you can also just get their clear moonshine. For a small price you can do a tasting. Downtown OWA has a number of restaurants including Paula Deens Family Kitchen, Lucy's Retired Surfers Restaurant & Bar and the Groovy Goat. There is an adjacent amusement park that during the off season is only open on weekends. According to those that we talked to that work in Downtown OWA they are pretty crowded when the park is open. We did notice a number of store fronts empty and available for lease. i am rooting for this place to make it long term because it is very nice. Suggest if you are going to visit go when the park is open.

    Unique place
I like the concept of this place. I don’t understand why it’s not busy but it was fine with me that it wasn’t. The amusement park and Paula Dean is there. This is not far from Tanger Outlet. We enjoyed our day at both locations. It was nice to get away from the hustle and bustle of the shores. If staying in Orange Beach or Gulf Shores and you have time I recommend coming to Foley to shop and/or eat. You could spend hours in Foley.
