Worth a Visit!

The Norton Museum of Art was founded in 1941 by Ralph Hubbard Norton (1875-1953) and his wife Elizabeth Calhoun Norton (1881-1947). The Museum’s permanent collection now consists of more than 7,600 works in five curatorial departments: European, American, Chinese, Contemporary and Photography. The Museum’s expansion that opened February 9, 2019 was designed by Pritzker Prize-winning architect Lord Norman Foster of the architectural firm Foster Partners. It is the most comprehensive in the institution’s 78-year history. Dramatic changes include boldly re-orienting the main entrance to South Dixie Highway , which restores the symmetrical east-west campus axis created in 1941 by original architect Marion Sims Wyeth. The building and accompanying lush sculpture garden, enable the Norton to exhibit more art, present more programs, and provide a growing community an up-to-date center for the public to enjoy art and culture.

West Palm Beach is blessed to have had the Norton's settle here.
This writeup is only about the physical musem and not the extensive garden grounds. The mseum definitely practices mask wearing and social distancing in capital letters. Reservations are mandatory so spcing can be enforced. The museum is on three levels with the ground floor being the largest open to the public. The collection is ecletic featuring ancient Chinese porcelines, 16th to 19th century European painters, modern American art among other items. The rooms are well laid out for specific periods with reasonable descritions of many items. I would allow two hours for an initial visit. We had very littlw interaction with the staff. The museum has an excellent websitee which you need to spend time with before visiting. It is now the largest museum in the State. All ticket prices, depending upon age, are reasonable.

Visit the Norton for a wonderful afternoon
Today we visited the museum to see the Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera exhibit, which was amazing! The museum is clean and they are taking excellent steps to ensure everyone is being careful to avoid over crowding. We brought ourproof of vaccination along with our photo identification and tickets, which was checked before we entered the museum. The museum has so many various artists exhibits, including statues and photos ranging from Manet to Picasso and more. The gardens are beautiful and peaceful and the statues and figurines outside are both whimsical and beautiful. Also, the gift shop is really nice and they have some unusual items. Julian was very helpful and extremely helpful!
