    Incredible Tour!!
The public tour of FAU Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute was an incredible experience. First, the tour covers the 144-acre campus in a golf cart with many stops, photo ops and hearing state of the art research being conducted by marine scientists and ocean engineers. My guide was Joey and when she isn't giving tours, she is one of those amazing marine scientists doing cutting edge research. The tour is 1 and 1/2 hours through a fantastic eco-system encompassing the campus. I enjoyed the facility housing large submersible vehicles, the newer compact submarines, and the turbine/buoy system which will be able to produce electric power. Another highlight is the vast aquaculture farms and facilities that are saving the health of the Indian River Lagoon/River, finding alternative food sources and new medicines to combat cancer and other diseases. So be prepared to be amazed like me by this experience. Stephen Miller

    Take the tour
The small visitor center is worth a look, but the real highlight is the guided public tour. You get to tour the beautiful campus by golf cart, see the research facilities, and learn about the important work done here on biomedicine, aquaculture, ocean energy and sustainability. I also enjoyed the quirky underwater vessels used in earlier days of ocean exploration, and the warm breezes from the lagoon and encounters with wildlife including a dolphin, an alligator, and many, many lizards (no manatees on the day I visited). The tour was given by a graduate student who eagerly shared her own research and encouraged me to ask more questions. They have public virtual lectures too if you want to learn even more.
