Inside Everglades & 10,000 Islands

This is a not-to-be-missed experience! Capt Craig, 7th generation native of this rarest of areas, opened the curtains to let us experience a disappearing life. Dark clouds departed as we stepped inside Capt Craig’s boat, his eye missing nothing and rich history fascinating. Meandering through the group of manatees we headed out toward open water and a lush green islands. Past a rookery of egrets and cormorants we found a roseate spoonbill sifting and feeding. At Calusa Indian mounds of oyster shells we disembarked to explore the layers of centuries, noting pottery and primitive tools. Capt Craig’s family were forced to leave their own island home in 1960’s but we explored the graveyard, exotic plants, snails, and paths. Shelling just before sunset we found so many treasures. As sunset arrived we raced around and through the maze of islands full speed to beat the departing tide. Fascinating, fulfilling and a true adventure. Don’t miss it!

    360 Degree Sunset
Captain Craig gave us an amazing adventure on our four hour sunset tour. We love the great American novel Shadow Country about the area of the 10,000 Islands, so he took us out to the Watson place and by Ted Smallwood’s store where Watson was killed. Fascinating. We had playful dolphins follow our boat twice in groups, which was fun. He took us to a place where we saw clearly how the shell mounds were created to form islands. Captain Craig, whose family has lived around these islands for seven generations, knows these waterways like the back of his hand. Approaching sunset, he took us to bird rookeries where all the different types of birds were coming in for the night, then to an island full of shells to watch the sun set. The wind was cool in February and we were glad we had brought warm jackets for this time of day. All in all, it was an amazing experience and we have the photos, our own and those shared for free by Captain Craig, to remember it forever! Well worth the cost.
